On the way back into town from our long bustrip from Queenstown to Christchurch on Friday, we drove by the Cookie Time factory on the outskirts of Christchurch. Cookie Time cookies have been Bret's savior, since American cookies are hard to come by here. He has found solace in the large Cookie Time chocolate chip cookies, that I am not convinced are very American. However, I have recently fallen victim to their mini cookie bites, that totally taste like home. After a bit of research, I discovered that the factory isn't open for tours, but they do have a factory shop (which totally reminded me of the Palmer Candy Company in Sioux City, where I always go when I visit my grandparents). Since I had the day off, I planned the hour long bustrip to take Bret to cookie paradise.
The story is amazing! A kiwi fell in love with soft American cookies and started this factory as a result (which was totally our idea when we got here)!
Up until a few years ago, Cookie Time held the Guinness World Record for largest chocolate chip cookie with 3.1 tons of sugar, 4.1 tons of flour, and 2.5 tons of chocolate! Wow!
Bin after bin of yummy, factory-direct cookies (@ discount prices)!!! Still recovering from the cookie overload from Bret's birthday, we only purchased the mini cookies (apricot chocolate chip!) and the broken cookie factory bits! And a whole lot of fun trinkets for Bret!
