Good Friday

After the recent frustrations we’ve been having at the hostel, we were very excited when our new friends, Cara and Matt, whom we met through Kim and Lance, offered to let us stay in their flat over the Easter weekend while they head home to Christchurch.  We were ecstatic!  Gorgeous view, cable television, a cozy bed, no bugs…it couldn’t get any better!!!  We looked forward to it all week, originally planning on taking off work for the Easter weekend and heading back to the hostel for one more week.  At the last minute, we completely changed our mind, packed up all of our stuff, and left the hostel for good this morning.  At 8 am, we took a cab across town to the flat!

Excited to chill the entire weekend, we first set out for the grocery store, to stock up on necessary provisions (cereal, milk, snacks, and Easter dinner ingredients) to get us through the weekend.  We walked and walked to the nearest store, only to find it closed for Good Friday!  I was surprised, considered it a fluke (one store), so we decided to take the bus circuit to find an open grocery store.  An hour bus ride later throughout the whole city, left us back where we started, after a city tour of entirely closed stores and malls.  Ugh.  No food!  We trudged uphill back to the flat, where I immediately Googled ‘thai delivey Auckland’.  Thankfully, we didn’t starve tonight; instead, we had curry, pad thai, and spring rolls delivered just in time to watch New Zealand’s Next Top Model, next to a roaring fire, staying cozy from the cold winter rain.
